Virtual Diwali Celebration 2021

Happy New Year 2021

Dear Members

The year 2020 was truly an unprecedented situation for everyone. The global coronavirus pandemic has, and still is, affecting all of our families, our businesses, our communities, and our way of life.

First and foremost, our hearts go out to anyone who’s been impacted by the virus, either directly or indirectly. Our thoughts are especially with those who are sick, to whom we extend our heartfelt wishes for a full recovery. We’re truly inspired by the selfless healthcare workers around the world who are on the front lines working tirelessly to care for people in need.

So much has changed in a short period of time – the world around us, our neighborhoods, gathering spaces, the places we work and call home. Life in the midst of COVID-19 has sparked fear, frustration and anxiety all around. Give yourself credit for enduring so many changes, including but not limited to
* living in constant fear of becoming ill
* grieving loved ones who had an untimely death during the pandemic
* learning online technology in such a short period of time
* maintaining distance from your loved ones
* worrying about food and supply shortage
* constantly remembering to wash hands and wearing a mask
* adjusting to a new daily routine to accommodate (work from home, home-schooling kids, more home cooked meals, lack of fitness provisions, etc)
* travel restraints for work and family needs
* staying inside
* lonely holidays and celebrations
* dealing with the unnecessary confusion caused by the 2020 elections

While I understand that it is easy for distractions, criticism and stress to creep in, we must continue to focus all of our energy on defeating this pandemic and the challenges associated with it in the new year. Start by making a resolution to think about ONLY the postives and look forward to a better year in 2021.

Children are so innocent, and it is very unfortunate that they had to experience this traumatic situation in their childhood years. They have been affected by physical distancing, quarantines and nationwide school closures. They may also feel fear, and grief, over the impact of the virus on their families. Talk to your children calmly and reassuringly about it, and give them space to share their fears. Educate them about all the preventive measures being taken to keep people safe and healthy.

While Phase 1 of the vaccines are being administered, I have full confidence that if we continue to adhere to the stay-at-home orders and other required precautions, we can gradually diminish the transmission of the infection. Hopefully, in the coming weeks and months, we can look at this difficult time in the “rearview mirror”. I see a light at the end of the tunnel, and we are slowly approaching it.
