Student Achievement Awards
For Ohio High School Graduates of 2019 Guidelines & Instructions
The deadline for application on August 1st. (Official transcripts can be produced later)
School students who demonstrate excellence in General Academics, Community service, Entrepreneurial leadership & Arts/Sports.
India Club of Greater Dayton is proud to announce commencing of recognizing the student’s achievements and awarding them for the higher studies. This demonstrates ICGD’s continued commitment to listen and resonate with the needs of the community.
About ICGD:
ICGD has been in existence since 1967 in the Greater Dayton and is the premier organization promoting higher education of Asian Indians through awards to qualified students attending college for the first time. ICGD will grant a total of 3 awards of $1,000 each, across 4 categories, to students who demonstrate excellence.
Mission Statement: “We are the point of contact in Ohio for advancing the cultural, charitable, academic, social, and professional interests of the Asian Indian community. Partnering with other Indian organizations, we build a sense of cohesiveness within this community, represent it to the population at large and provide a voice to the State”.
About Achievement Awards:
Awards will be given in 4 categories for demonstrating excellence as described below
Category Description of Excellence
General
General well-rounded accomplishments across many areas, with primary focus on Academic achievements.
Community Service / Civic Engagement
Contribution to the Community at large through participation/leadership in Community Service and Civic Engagements.
Entrepreneurial Leadership
Founder/Co-Founder/Leader of an entity (non-profit/profit) and/or Demonstrated Leadership to promote an entity that benefits the society at large.
Arts & Sports Achievements in any form of Cultural Arts or any Sport
Application Deadline & Address:
■ Applications must be submitted by August 1st, 2019

Selection & Intimation Process:
■ Applications will be reviewed by an ICGD appointed committee, for each of the applied categories
■ Family members of the review committee are excluded from the award process and are not entitled to apply
■ The Review Committee members will review and rate all valid applications and recommend the names of selected achievement awardees to the ICGD President
■ ICGD President will inform the award winners by August 11th, 2019
■ Decision of ICGD will be final and binding
■ Results may also be published on ICGD website (indiaclubdayton.org) or other communications from ICGD
■ Awards will be given on Diwali Celebrations (Annual General body Meeting)
Applicant Requirements:
■ Applicant must be a legal US resident
■ Applicant does NOT need to be of Asian Indian origin, but should have been involved with activities/causes related to Asian Indian community
■ Applicant must have graduated from a Ohio High School in the year 2019.
■ Applicant must be a first-time degree seeking freshman in the Fall of 2019 at a two or four-year degree program in the United States.
■ Applicant must have completed and submitted all applicable paperwork by the application deadline
Application Submission Checklist: Common for all categories:
■ Online Application Form
■ Copy of Official Transcript (can be produced later if you do not have it in hand)
■ Recommendation Letter from 1 prominent member in the Community familiar with your achievements and can speak to your involvement
Specific for each category:
■ Brief outline of your achievements in the category
Provide as much supporting detail as relevant to your achievements
■ Personal Statement / Essay for the category
How has your Asian Indian heritage and/or your involvement with Asian Indian community contributed to your development in the specific category? What advice/words of wisdom would you give to incoming High School freshmen that express a desire to emulate and surpass your success? limit to 500 words
Application Guidelines:
■ Student can apply to 1 or more of the 4 categories - General Academics, Community service, Entrepreneurial leadership & Arts/Sports. However, a given student is eligible to receive only 1 award across the categories.
■ Requirements under Common section below apply to all categories and require only one submission
■ Requirements under Category section are specific to each category and need to be submitted with relevant content for each of the categories the student intends to apply.
■ For example, if a student is interested in being considered for both “General” and “Arts/Sports” categories - their submission would include the below

Frequently Asked Questions
- I am part Indian. Can I apply? Yes. Even Martians can apply.
- I am a continuing student. Can I apply?
No. At this time, awards are open only to first-time college degree seeking freshmen.
- My parents are here on a special Visa (H1, L1, etc.). Can I apply?
Yes. There are no immigration status restrictions on who can apply for these awards.
- Is there any special consideration for individuals who are physically challenged or disabled?
No.
- Are there any limitations on the use of the award funds?
Yes. The award funds are expected to further the higher education of the selected applicant. The funds can be used to cover only the cost of education, which includes – tuition, fees, books, supplies, living expenses and meals.
- Is the award check made out to me or to the school?
The check is made out to you, but funds should only be used per stated guidelines.

- Is this award taxable?
The recipient is responsible for taxes, if any, that may be assessed against the award. Please consult your tax advisor for guidance.
- Where do I send the completed application packet?
Completed application must be submitted online(will be available in May 2019). You will receive a confirmation from the committee chair within 48 hours.
